      Hodgdon Trail Boss is known for its popularity throughout the Single Action Shooting Society. It reigns supreme in classic, low-velocity cartridges, such as the .45 Colt and the .45-70 Gov’t., largely because of its ability to fill the space inside these large cases without creating dangerous pressure levels.

      Trail Boss accomplishes this through its unique “donut” shaped kernels, maximizing its volume. This design feature is so effective that Hodgdon can only cram about nine ounces into the same bottle that would normally hold a pound of the company’s other powders. Trail Boss powder

      This ability to completely fill cases is extremely desirable because it helps control ignition by ensuring the same amount of powder is down by the primer each and every time. Most cowboy-action cartridges originate from the black powder days when gunpowder was far less potent than today’s smokeless variety. Trail Boss powder

      This required the use of much more of the old material. Fast-forward 100 years and those same cartridges are in existence, except now to be loaded (and reloaded) with modern smokeless powder. This leaves a tremendous gap between the base of the bullet and the powder column, making each ignition very different from round to round and also allowing for the dangerous possibility of a double charge.

      Trail Boss Powder for sale is different from other powders due to its amazing, low bulk density.  Few powders come anywhere near the 325 g/L bulk density of Trail Boss.  By giving the powder such a “fluffy” measure, it utilizes most of the capacity of almost any case chosen. In normal cartridge loading,  full cases generally provide the most uniformity and accuracy.  It holds true here.  When one loads a full case with this powder, he needs to refrain from any compression.  Compression affects the ignition of this powder, causing less uniform velocities and lesser accuracy.  We maintain excellent results from 100% loading density, down to 70 % loading density.  One can find his load somewhere in that range.  In all small arms cartridges, from the Hornet up to the 460 Weatherby magnum, you cannot exceed maximum pressures with 100% load density loadings.  No other powder can claim that distinction.

        I first bought this powder for building .45 Colt plinking loads. It works very well in that capacity. Exactly as advertised. I was surprised at how well it metered and the simple ‘fluffiness’ of this stuff.Turns out that it has more uses than simply blackpowder era cases. I also use this powder in making sub loads for my 7mm-08 Remington and soon will try the same for the .300 Savage. Should work well in this capacity in ANY rifle cartridge

        I like the feel when it shoots.Just remember that the volume of powder you are loading is larger, so you will be using this up quicker and so will be buying more. But you will like it otherwise. And it DOES do what it is designed to do. i recommend gunammo

        Trail Boss works great in my 38 and 44 Special loads. The most accurate loads are when combined with Hornady swaged soft lead bullets. This powder provides a mild but satisfying recoil. Little powder residue after shooting, and what there is wipes up easily. Fills the cases full, so no double-charging to worry about. Great stuff !

        A real nice powder for soft loads in a magnum caliber. I use this for practice rounds in the .500 S&W. It pushes a 450 grain slug at about 900 FPS and is quite comfortable for extended shooting. Also works well in the .44 mag and .44 special. Very clean burning, and throws a surprisingly accurate charge for such a huge grain.

        I bought Trailboss to reload my 45 colt. When I first strarted using it through my Lee loader I kept a very close check on the loads as it is quite a light large grained powder. I was concerned it might bridge in the powder measure. No problems at all. The loads are consistent. Also you can not overcharge the 45 colt cartridge. The powder will not physically fit if you try to put two charges in. It groups really well also. All in all, a great powder for cowboy actions. I won’t be changing

        I have used various powders for my Cowboy Action Shooting and I have found Trail Boss to be the best. I have a Dillon 550 and the powder meters exceptionally well. I do a random check of the loads to be sure all is well and have found that the load are always plus or minus 0.1 gr. The loads shoot very well with low recoil. My times have improved since I started using this powder.

        Have loaded thousands of rounds on Dillon 650 with powder check. Never had a problem. Pistols and rifles cycle without problems for cowboy action shooting. Powder fills 3/4 of case. If you get a double charge, you’re gonna know it!

        Excellent for Cowboys using black powder size cartridge cases. It did prevent for me a double charge in a .45 Colt case, even with the minimum load. Also, the powder is very clean shooting, almost no smoke. Meters well. Highly recommend for safety if nothing else.

        I highly recommend that this powder be used for all cast bullet loads in almost every cartridge. In my personal opinion there does not exist a better powder for cast lead bullets. I use this powder for cast bullet loads in all my guns from tiny handgun cartridges to the Weatherby Magnums for cheap target loads.

        I use this powder for Cowboy Action Shooting. I have tried Titegroup, American Select and others before trying this powder. The Titegroup would not meter well in my Dillon 650. This powder stays within .1grs. I really enjoy shooting my pistols with it and shoot the same load in the pistols and rifle.

        This is a great product. It takes up much more space in the case. It is very difficult to double charge a case because you would literally over run it with powder. Also its light grey color makes it easy to see in the case. It is one great powder. Try it in your 45-70’s as well.

        I would not consider this a clean burning powder nor would I consider it dirty. Even though the flakes are huge it meters perfect on my Dillon 650 (surprisingly). I have only used it with .45 200 lead and .38 berry’s 158. When compared relatively to other powders I can say that it has a soft recoil. One thing for sure is that this powder does have a distinct smell to it.

        I’ve been using Trail Boss in my .45-70 Sharps. Works great, is very consistent and virtually eliminates the tremendous recoil I get from IMR 4064. With 4064 a .45-70 is like a cannon going off, with Trail Boss it’s more like a .22! (without too much sacrifice in velocity).

        Most excellent thing since the refrigerator! I load 215gr cast in my 41 mag, and my 11 year old daughter shoots it. I get about 835fps, and it’s very economical to use, even in a 9 oz. package. Meters very well through my measure. No bridging or binding.

        my TiteGroup order I included a bottle of Trail Boss since I’ve been wanting to try it since it first came out. Loading it is not like any other powder as it has BIG flakes which makes it easy to set the powder measure in my Dillon 550. I’ve loaded different charges behind 200g & 255g coated bullets for my .45acp. This weekend I plan to target practice and see how they perform.

        I had an incident with another brand powder when I accidentally double charged one case to which it split the case in the chamber of my rifle. As a result, I had to take it to a gunsmith to extract it. A fellow shooter recommended Trail Boss powder. I got some and never looked back. You can not double charge a .38 special case with Trail Boss because of its large cylinder shaped flake, it takes up a lot of room in the case. It is a good powder for competitive shooting because it burns consistently and is not too dirty. The powder feeds very well through my Dillon 550B. Because I do competitive shooting (CAS) I have not really looked into how accurate my groupings are. If I shoot at the target and I get a pinging sound of the bullet hit, that accurate enough for me.

        I started using Trail Boss Powder after reading about it in a couple of Gun Mags. It sounded too good to be true! I have been an avid hand loader for thirty five years, and loaded for everything from .38 S&W to .458 Win Mag. I became interested in six shooters and lever actions while attending the armorers classes at Suzanville’s Lassen Community Collage for my Sheriff’s Department. I started doing pistol smithing for friends and grew interested in Linebaugh’s .475 and .500 big bores. Even modest loads in those beauties wear on yer nerves after a full afternoon. So, TB allows mild but satisfying handloads even the grandkids can enjoy, and the fact that an overcharge is practically impossible to produce, makes it the perfect learning powder too.         We are using this powder to fire 45-70, 450 Marlin and 458 WIN on a 50′ indoor range. Using 300 grain lead all calibers. Lee Shooter reduced load calculator predicts 940 fps for 45-70.

        Ok Handloaders, if you are looking for a powder that will give you consistent performance, low recoil, multiple assortment of calibers to load and with the added feature of burning rather clean,then this is the powder for you!!! I have a Uberti Schofield, a Cimarron Bisley, and a Henry Big Boy in 45LC, they all perform outstandingly when loaded with this powder. I use Trail boss in my Dillon 550 press and it meters the powder without a hitch. Hey ,try this powder in 44mag, 44spec, 357 mag too. You will not be disappointed by the performance of this stuff !!
